Editorial Policy
How we research, write, review, update and correct the guides on this site, and how we handle commercial relationships.
Last updated September 1, 2026
Purpose
Everything we publish is written for educational purposes: to help readers in the United States understand how a system works and what their options are. It is general information, not personalized financial, legal or tax advice, and it cannot account for an individual's circumstances.
Research and sourcing
- Guides are researched independently, using primary sources wherever they exist.
- Preferred sources are government agencies and regulators, the credit bureaus and scoring model developers, standards bodies, peer-reviewed research, and a company's own published documentation and terms.
- Important factual claims are supported by a reputable source, listed in the article's sources section where relevant.
- We do not fabricate statistics, quotations, experts, testimonials or sources. If we cannot verify a figure, we leave it out rather than estimate it.
- Where a topic is contested or the law is unsettled, we say so instead of presenting one answer as settled.
Claims we do not make
Because we cover financial and security topics, we hold ourselves to specific limits:
- We do not promise financial results or specific savings.
- We do not guarantee credit score increases, and we say plainly that nobody can.
- We do not claim any product prevents all identity theft, fraud or data loss.
- We do not use language such as "guaranteed", "100% protection" or "the absolute best".
- We do not make comparative claims we cannot support with documented, verifiable product information.
Reviews and product coverage
- Reviews are factual and balanced, and they state limitations as clearly as strengths.
- We distinguish between factual product features, which come from documentation, terms and testing, and editorial opinion, which we label as our view.
- We do not publish fake reviews, invented user testimonials or manufactured ratings.
- Prices, features and terms change. We date our coverage and encourage readers to verify current details with the provider.
- A company cannot buy a positive review, a higher position, or the removal of criticism.
Review before publication
Every guide is reviewed before it goes live for accuracy, clarity, correct sourcing, and compliance with the claim limits above. Articles carry a publication date, and an updated date when they have been revised.
Updates and corrections
- We update guides when rules, products, prices or best practices change.
- Substantive updates are reflected in the article's updated date.
- Errors are corrected promptly once confirmed. Corrections that change the meaning of an article are noted on the page.
- Readers can report an error at corrections@businessfade.com or through our contact page.
Advertising and affiliate relationships
- Some links are affiliate links, and we may earn compensation when a reader purchases through them at no additional cost to the reader.
- Affiliate relationships do not determine what we cover, how we rank or rate a product, or what we say about it.
- An affiliate relationship never guarantees a positive review.
- Affiliate links are disclosed on the pages where they appear, and our full terms are on the Affiliate Disclosure page.
- Editorial decisions are made independently of commercial arrangements.
Use of AI tools
We may use software tools, including AI-assisted tools, for tasks such as research assistance, drafting support and editing. A person is responsible for the accuracy of everything we publish, and every guide is reviewed by a person before publication. We do not publish unreviewed machine-generated content.
Reader responsibility
Financial and security decisions depend on individual circumstances. Where a decision is significant, verify it with a professional who knows your situation — an accountant, attorney, licensed financial adviser, or a nonprofit credit counselor — and check current terms directly with the provider.
